Children’s Creative Corner

Programs

Over-the-Rhine Community Housing’s Children’s Creative Corner is a free, low-barrier after-school art program for all youth in Over-the-Rhine. Established in 2007 to support the low-income families living in our community, we provide year-round art programming and cultural field trips for youth ages 5-14. While most participants are residents of Over-the-Rhine Community Housing properties and live within a few blocks of our dedicated CCC space at 220 E. Clifton Ave, all youth are welcome as there is no selection process.

At Children’s Creative Corner we cultivate a nurturing space where youth can connect with peers, grow personally and creatively. By practicing these skills youth feel empowered to explore, understand, and express themselves both as individuals and as part of their greater community. During the summer, our Children’s Creative Corner continues to provide programming aimed at keeping our youth engaged in fun, creative activities including field trips, picnics, and art-based activities. Thanks to Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing and YMCA Camp Ernst we also provide our youth with the opportunity to attend a week-long summer camp session.

All Children’s Creative Corner staff and volunteers are trained in trauma informed care, which serves as a framework for understanding and responding to behavior in such a way that prioritizes safety and trust, while also avoiding retraumatization. Our programming is also driven by a commitment to social-emotional learning, which teaches youth how to recognize and manage their emotions.
