Recovery Hotel is a 20-unit permanent supportive housing development that has provided stable housing for men and women in recovery from substance use for over 30 years. Located in Over-the-Rhine’s Gateway Quarter, the building reflects a long-standing commitment to supporting individuals as they rebuild their lives.
Opened in the 1990s, the project was developed despite early opposition and has since become an established and valued part of the neighborhood. Today, it stands as a strong example of how supportive housing contributes to both individual stability and community wellbeing.
Each unit is supported through HUD’s Shelter Plus Care program, with rental subsidies administered in partnership with Strategies to End Homelessness. Over-the-Rhine Community Housing owns and manages the property and provides on-site services, including case management and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings, to support residents in maintaining housing, securing income, and continuing their recovery journey.
Over the years, many residents have moved on to stable employment and long-term housing, while some have continued to support others in recovery. The building also features a resident-designed mural created in collaboration with ArtWorks, reflecting the voices and experiences of those who call Recovery Hotel home.
Recovery Hotel remains an enduring example of what sustained investment in supportive housing can achieve and reflects an ongoing commitment to preserving affordable housing for those who need it most.
